A: TBA

Q: Why are you called KO・KYOTO?

A: In Japan, a crane and a turtle is the symbol of longevity.
We at KO・KYOTO, select and sell items that we deem well-made and well-designed, including “Dento Kogei” items.
Though ‘Dento’ is often translated to English as ‘tradition’ but it is not merely about age, or the transmission of how-to make something the old way; the nuance is much closer to ‘pursuance of excellence’. It is important that these items complement the modern lifestyle and they are ecologically sustainable.

Our long term goal is to foster an alternative to the over-consuming, easy-disposing patterns that does damage to the ecology, which stems out of mass production.
We think one of the places for making an impact is in the production process itself. This includes reintroducing traditional materials and refined techniques, grounded by the wisdom of the old world. As mass production and over consumption goes hand in hand, we can change course by choosing carefully and consume less. We do not want our customers to hoard or repurchase every fiscal year. We hope that our items can stay and grow old together with its owners.
