SUZUGAMI

Bend in a flexible way to change. You can bend, fold and stretch it. Even though it is metal, it can be reshaped as many times as you want it to be, just like origami. It is a versatile vessel that can be used in a variety of situations and applications.

ABOUT SYOURYU

'Syouryu' is the proprietary brand of Shimatani Syouryu Koubou, a workshop that since its establishment in 1909 has been a specialist manufacturer of orin bowl gongs for the Buddhist temples.

At this workshop, there are three orin craftsmen (there are only ten in all of Japan) who make orin gongs by hammering metal down to create a round shaped gong with a nicely tuned tone. Our goal is to continue using this metal hammering technique to produce new products.

THE CREATION OF SUZUGAMI

The idea of a new Takaoka City product, typical of metalwork artisans and something that can be used every day, led to the birth of a new brand and a new product.

This object, referred to as 'Suzugami' or 'tin paper', is a new tin product that, as its name implies, is thin and freely malleable like paper. Not only can it become patterned by repeatedly hammering a moving tin sheet, but it also develops a strength that has resistance to repeated bending. It is a commodity that only metalwork artisans can conjure up.

Want to bend metal easily to the form you'd like? That is the suzugami novelty.

HOW TO USE SUZUGAMI

You can use it for guests, accessories and drinks, so you can enjoy your own shape and purpose. It will be a great gift for wedding and housewarming gifts.
